Joint Stamp Issue Featuring Kathakali and Kabuki

India issued its first joint stamp with Japan in April 2002. This special release was to commemorate 50th Anniversary of the diplomatic relation between India and Japan.Though India and Japan were enemies during World War II, the relation between the two countries became stronger since India’s Independence. Besides, Buddhism is the common thread which ties these nations culturally.
Hence, to commemorate the 50th year of the diplomatic relation between those both the countries have issued special commemorative stamps.
India issued a set of 2 stamps on dances of both the countries. On the other hand Japan issued a single stamp on Taj Mahal.
